Video: Mach 2 Hampster - Jet powered rc car

Jet Cars' first test run

From their site:

Chris Hulme (age 34) and Brian Sharkey (age 40) are both keen model plane flyers. In the process of building a jet fighter we started to build a jet car powered by a scale gas turbine jet engine which produces around 14lbs of thrust capable of flying a model plane at 230mph. We are now in the build stages of the fastest radio controlled car over a 1/4 of a mile aiming to reach in excess of 180mph true land speed. The car built on a 1/8th scale will break the scale speed of MACH 2.0, twice the speed of sound which we understand has never been achieved before.

Jim Schauer 1.2819 ET @ 99 mph

Jim posted this on Sun Dec 02, 2007 in the forum:

"Thanks very much guys. As you know, the power available from these brushless systems is overwhelming but the faster we go, the more difficult it becomes to gain consistancy! Our new track surface is great and with cold , cloudy weather (and a couple of hours of rain) it was pretty much unchanged all day. This should lead to a whole bunch of 1.3's right? Well, the 2nd fastest pass was 1.44 or so by Nic Case. My other passes were 1.45, 1.47, 1.50, all dead straight but suffering from the dreaded MM stutter step. A couple of those passes were over 100 mph also.......the only difference between 1.28 & 1.47 seems to be the launch. If we ever get this figured out........."

On board camera crash

Paul Songas:
"Justin Ehlen, one of our super great racers put an on board camera on his bracket car today just for kicks. Well first pass he had problems with a front wheel that made the car get out of control a little bit. He got loose about 60 feet down, almost hit the ET ramp, and then went for a WILD ride...
Drivers reaction is pretty good too! Songas Racing

Insane speed contest 2007 - Japan

Translated from Babblefish:

"The maximum speed competition is organized by the magazine RC World. Since I could not participate this time because of a violent cold, I must fall back to pictures from selbigen magazine.
In contrast to the World Drome running on the same course goes it this time only around Hoechsteschwindigkeit. It is in each case a driver on the course.
The maximum speed was with 165,229 km/h with a comparatively unspektakulaerem vehicle. Continues to surprise not, since the speed is the smaller problem. It is many more difficult to find a suitable vehicle tuning. It concerns a round distance and no dragees Strip. Since the course is available only for one day, there is no training. Either it functions or not.
As always there were a few very interesting and beautiful constructions to also see. Also it is beautiful that not all participants set on the safe bank and use a conservative (and probably fast) model, but experiments.
Also a radix complement at Kohei Morita, which reached 110,321km/h at minimum expenditure (Tech Racing DD-M chassis, enRoute standard engine of the World Drome running and 11,1V Lipo). "
