Nic Case's 127.2 mph electrified nitro Shumacher Fusion. This is what Nic has to say about the event:

Good time
Great people

I had a blast! Conditions were diffidently challenging this year. The combination of wind, skechy traction & concrete walls made this event, --- live up to its own name. George Gonzalez was very brave, handling the official Radar duties. Somehow George was able to dodge all the RC bullets thrown at him....LOL (me included) .
AJ, (Tony Lovering)---AKA Ziggy, is a great guy. He wants to get a WFRCCC going in the UK next year --- & hold it on the same day as the one in the United States. (Brilliant!)

Thanks
Nic

BTW
The Fastest of my runs (127.2mph) was done with a Schumacher Fusion converted to electric power.

Charlie Suangka's Xray: Novak HV system, and the right gearing. The car was consistent and quick, with a best run of 118.7mph

After posting an 88mph run, Tony hopped off the retaing wall with transmitter in hand. This popped the battery cover off, spilling the cells in the process, leading to a runaway triple-engine car. It snuck under the rental car used to protect the timing tent, wiping out a couple of chairs in the process. It took three guys to shut it down--one per engine.

This is what Tony said about his experience at the competition:

It was all worth it!!

All the racers met at a local diner and had breakfast before heading to the track. The track was one lane of the california Speedway Drag Strip and had concrete wall all the way around. The track was slick and had zero grip! It was like running foams on wet tarmac.

I started my car and tried to tune it for the 30% Odonnel fuel and the 95 deg F temps. I had to lean the engines nearly 1 1/2 turns to get them to keep running.

I did a quick pass without the shell and a very short run up to the speed trap just to see if the engines would not flame out but all but one stopped before crossing the line at 48.2 mph.

It was hard to get track time as the electric cars were ready to go at a few seconds notice where i had to start all the engines and tune them up before running then back to the starter box after one had died.

Next run I tried to launch the car and keep the engines running. I did the same short run up and no shell. This time one engine stopped before the launch and the car did 68.7 mph croosing the line with no engines running.

I leaned the engines a full 3/4 turns and tried again. I extended the run up to around 200m and launched very steady. I managed full throttle at about 100m to go to the trap and got 88 mph. All 3 engines were still running so I managed to get the car back for another run. Right this is it!! A quick refuel and its a full run up at full throttle.

I jumped off the wall to fill the car and my knee caught the battery lead to the transmitter. The car took off and smashed into the wall loosing the front end. The car then took off up the drag strip crashing into the timekeepers chair and that was it.

Lessons learned.

The track conditions wer not good and I needed to have the option of running a smaller gear. I tried to go to fast and needed to get post a decent speed around 100 - 120 before gearing up.

The engines need to be changed for something with a lot more bottom end punch. Next plan is to:

Change the rear pulleys from 16/18 to 15/19.
Change the side pulleys from 19/14 to 18/15 to maintain 3% overdrive
Change the gearing to 15/49 45/19
Make and install 3 x alluminium clutch shoes
Install Novarossi 3 x 35 plus 21 engines. or maybe change out the R03 and the Sirio to RB Xenon Rs
Install a steering gyro

I also need a new shell as the blue one is toast!

I have pics and vids i'll post later

Cheers

Ken Davis' built this 1/12-bodied machine using an Associated RC18 as a base. It was the fastest mini at 59.2mph. Not fast enough to take Tony Phalen's '06 record, but Ken's car sure got airborne just like Tony's!

Brian Pohlman and his dad, John, wee back with two custom cars this year. Dad's electric car was fast, but he put it into the wall before it's true potential could be realized (best run, 65.1mph). Brian's gasser did 64.2, with a lot left on tap.

RC Car Action Worlds Fastest RC Car Challenge today

This event is coming soon. It starts at 9am PST (California) July 28th 2007. The RC Zone will be on-site to provide (possibly live) coverage including immediate announcement of the top winners. Be sure to bookmark this page and check back on July 28th! I may even be able to post gradual updates with photos. Videos will be posted a few days after. Unfortunately I can not set up the TRCZ Live! webcast because there is no internet at the track. Nic Case set the official record last year (see his video below) at 134.4 MPH and unofficially at 160 MPH and will be returning again this year.

Please note that our coverage is dependent on what type of internet connection we have at the track (WiFi vs. Cellular). This page may not be updated at all. Be sure to check the RC News forum as that may be how I do the coverage.

Check for coverage here and here

Update for WFRCCC '07

therczone on RCZone is reporting live from WFRCCC 2007. He gives an update as of 6:00pm PST:

rczone at 5:58pm PST says:

Nic Case is done... Charlie Swanka is going to continue trying...

rczone at 4:35pm PST says:

We still have yet to break the official record of 134.4.... it is extremely windy.. a car just took out the announcer tent at 50 mph easy inches from shattering on Peter Viera's wheel to his real car.. got it all on video... people are having problems with getting airborne and the rear end swapping too much, or just full-on spin outs... I don't think the record will be broken this year..

rczone at 2:43pm PST says:

They're giving up on the speedtrap.. it will be by radar now... we have yet to break the 134.4 mph record...

rczone at 12:41pm PST says:

They're having problems with the speedtrap but they have the Stalker radar system which runs $3000... Rainman's dragster glitched and the rear end is all messed up.. not sure if he'll be able to fix it or not..

I'm video taping everything although I have missed a few runs (not record-breaking ones).. fastest I've seen so far is 116 mph by (I think) Nic Case.. Tony Lovering is next...

Some unofficial notable runs:

127.2 mph by Nic Case with some air.... new record for today but still does not beat Nic's 134.4...

118.7 mph by Charlie Swanka from Novak

115 mph Nic Case with his mini

106 mph by Bob Novak..

104.6 mph Jim Schauer

64.9 mph John Crook new monster truck record..

Worlds Fastest RC car challenge Saturday July 28, 2007

WFRCCC II: Saturday, July 28, 2007

From Pete V. of RC Car Action:

Same rules as last year, but we'll also be posting new rules soon as to what constitutes a Mini, a Monster Truck, a Motorcycle etc. Again, ANYTHING that follows the essential rules (wheel-driven, 40" long or less) will be allowed to run. But if you stretch an RC18T to a 12" wheelbase and run 1/10 scale touring car tires in it, you can't say it's running in the "mini" class.

We also want to avoid endless sub-classes (for example, we won't have Monster Truck nitro, Monster Truck brushed, Monster Truck brushless, Monster Truck 1/8, Monster Truck 1/10--there will just be "Monster Truck")

"Worlds Fastest" rules

THE VEHICLES
1. Wheel-driven vehicles only. Vehicles powered by thrust (jet, rocket, propeller, etc.) are not allowed. Turbine power is allowed only if the turbine is used to drive the wheels, not for thrust.

2. Vehicles may be powered by engine(s) or motor(s) of any number and configuration.

3. Vehicles may be any weight, with any chassis configuration and any number of wheels—but the completed vehicle may not exceed 40 inches (1016mm) in length.

4. All vehicles must use commercially available FM radio gear with a functioning fail-safe system set to apply full brake in the event of signal loss or interference.

5. Vehicles are not required to look like any type of "real" car or truck, but all entries must have some type of 3-dimensional "cockpit area" with windows (clear or painted). It's OK if your car looks like a space ship as long as it appears to have a place for a guy to sit.

6. The vehicle must remain operable after its speed runs. Sacrificial motors or power systems that are inoperable after a run are not permitted.

7. Drivers must operate their vehicles from a fixed position. Chase cars are not permitted.

8. Drivers or teams may enter as many cars as they like.

THE ENTRANTS
Entrants will be divided into three classes: Manufacturer Team, Independent Team and Individual.

MANUFACTURER TEAM: entries fielded by RC companies will run in the Manufacturer Team class.

INDEPENDANT TEAM: if the entered vehicle is the collaboration of three or more individuals operating without the support of a manufacturer, it will run in the Independent Team class. High school shop teams, university engineering departments, RC clubs ... this is your class!

INDIVIDUAL: any vehicle entered by a single person will run in the Individual class.

THE WINNER
Each vehicle will be given three attempts to make its fastest run. The vehicle with the absolute highest peak speed will be declared the overall winner, and separate awards will be given to the fastest vehicles in the Manufacturer, Independent and Individual classes.

Special awards will also be given for "Most Innovative Design," "Fastest-Looking", "Fastest Production Car" (for vehicles that are still recognizable as production-based cars and trucks), "Fastest Engine-Powered Car" and "Fastest Electric Car." We may also make up some awards at the event, based on the type of vehicle that show up (Fastest Monster Truck? Fastest Motorcycle? Surprise us!). It's a top-speed contest, but we'll also reward creativity and originality; we don't want every car to be a rail with 20 cells.
